Texans VS Panthers: Preseason Preview

As the first week of the NFL preseason is underway we will be taking a look at the week 1 match up that has two of the top defensive teams in all the NFL.

Top 5 things to look for:

  • Christian McCafferys Impact: McCaffery will be in the starting rotation in the regular season for the Panthers, used mostly as a 3rd down or long yardage back. I will be looking to see how much impact he has on the game and what role he has in the panthers offense.

  •  Texans Rookies: The Texans came out of the NFL draft in good shape picking up some good talent including, will take on the Texans  Deshaun Watson, D’onta Foreman and Zach Cunningham. I will be wanting to see what impact these players have as the game wears on.                                                                                                           Some Questions to ask about the Texans Rookies:
  • Will Foreman get going?
  • Will Cunningham have a Impact at Linebacker?
  • Will Deshaun Watson have solid NFl debut?

  • How will the Panthers handle NO Cam Newton?                                   Cam Newton will not be playing today, so for the majority of the first half the Panthers Starting offense will take on the Texans starting Defense without star QB Cam Newton leading the team. Will the Panthers resort to a run heavy start to the game, or let their backup(s) come out slinging?

  • J.J. Watt/Jadeveon Clowney:                                                                           These two Texans superstars wont get much playing time, but it will be interesting to see how much disruption they cause in those 10-15 minutes they have on the field together.

  • Joe Webb:                                                                                                                           The Mobile Veteran Webb is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL, the Panthers third string QB will look to energize and excite the Panthers crowd with his flashy play style and quick feet. Look for Webb to put on a show tonight.

My Score Prediction:                                                                                              Texans: 24                                                                                                                 Panthers: 21

Tennessee Titans Off Season Additions

Image result for corey davis and eric deckerThe Tennessee Titans have added some real weapons on Offense and some Anchors on the Defense. These include:

  • Eric Decker: The Former New York Jets WR will bring a veteran presence in that young wide receiving core; And not to mention he caught 12 TD’s two seasons ago in New York.
  • Corey Davis: Davis, who is the NCAA receiving yards leader was drafted 5th overall by Tennessee and should thrive beside a Veteran leader like Decker.
  • Taywan Taylor: Like Davis, Taylor is a rookie. He was drafted in the third round and will be a second string receiver and will have time to develop.
  • Adoree’ Jackson: Jackson is a Rookie who did it all in college. He was a kick and punt returner and played cornerback and wide receiver. He adds a dynamic edge to the Titans team.
  •   Jonu Smith: A dynamic rookie tight end who caught 18 touchdowns in his career at FIU will look to be another option at tight end other than Delanie Walker.
  • Logan Ryan: In his career in New England, Ryan racked up 13 interceptions and 41 passes defended. He will help boost the titans secondary that desperately needed a lock down corner.

Other Notable Additions:

  • Jonathan Cyprien-FS
  • Sylvester Williams -NT
  • Eric Weems-WR
  • Brynden Trawick-SS
  • Daren Bates-RILB

Jamie Collins Sr. Was Wanted by Browns in the 2013 NFL Draft & Collins Moving to Safety?

Jamie Collins was wanted by the Cleveland Browns (current team) in the 2013 NFL Draft. If the Browns were successful in drafting Collins in the 2013 Draft, it could have helped secure their front 7, and maybe helped them have some better defensive snaps over the past few years.

News out of Cleveland is that Collins Sr.  is begging coaches to move him to Free Safety. Collins has the speed (4.59) to play safety, he also has 5 interceptions and 16 pass deflections in his career. Those stats are almost exactly identical to Safety Kenny Vaccaro who was drafted in the same year as Jamie Collins. Though it is very unlikely that Collins Sr. will play safety, it’s just scary to think about a speedy 6’3” 250lbs Free Safety in the Browns secondary.

NFL Mock Draft (Part 1)

1. Cle: Myles Garret-  No dispute here, clearly the number 1 player in the draft.

2. SF: Mitch Trubisky- “San Fran” Needs a New Face for the Franchise, and Trubisky will be just that.

3. CHI: Marshon Lattimore- Chicago need help in the secondary, Lattimore is the best Corner in this Draft.

4. Jax: Lenard Fournette- Jacksonville could go many different directions, being one of the worst rushing teams in the league last year this seems like the smart move.

5. TEN: Forrest Lamp- Titans need Help in the Secondary and the Offensive Line, i think they go Line First Round.

6. NYJ: Deshaun Watson- Jets need a True Franchise QB, I think Watson can be that Guy.

7. LAC: Malik Hooker-  Chargers need a Safety, bottom line.

8. CAR: Ryan Ramczyk- With Cam Newton complaining about all the hits last year, i think the Panthers listen and get a Lineman first round.

9. CIN: Takkarist McKinley- Bengals love Big, Tough, Strong linebackers, i think McKinley will fit in nicely.

10. BUF: De Shone Kizer- Buffalo needs a Franchise QB, Kizer will be able to sit out this year and learn under Tyrod Taylor.

11. NO: Jonathan Allen- Saints cant get Pressure or stop the run, Allen does both.

12. CLE: Jamal Adams- Cleveland needs some Secondary help, Adams is a Day 1 starter.

13. ARI: John Ross- Arizona loves Speedy Receivers, and Larry on his last leg its time to bring in some youth.

14. IND: Cam Robinson- Indy has to protect Andrew Luck, bottom line. They go Offinsive Lineman First round.

15. PHI: Dalvin Cook – Ryan Mathews isn’t a every down back, and neither is Darren Sproles. Cook adds youth to a old Running Back Core.

16. BAL: Zach Cunningham – Baltimore needs youth on the Defensive side of the ball. And Zach Cunningham is a perfect fit for Baltimore.

17. WAS: Soloman Thomas – Washington needs a explosive Pass Rusher, Thomas is just that.

Muhammad Wilkerson signs five-year deal with Jets

Mo The New York Jets have locked up DT Muhammad Wilkerson on a 5 year $86 million dollar deal with $53.5 of that guaranteed. Wilkerson and the Jets waited until the very last moments of the deadline to agree on this assumed deal. With the Jets locking up Wilkerson with this long term contract, this deal just might give them the extra cash to reel in Fitzpatrick who just turned down a 3 year 24 million dollar deal.
